Thoughts and Goings On!

At the end of May, my husband and I set out on a huge, wild, and most certifiably insane trip of a lifetime. We brought a very large portion of his very large family all the way to Disney World. With this many people and the amount of time we had to save, we knew that staying on property was just not an option. Sometimes, that is the case, unfortunately. Sad day. But, never the less, we were going. We also decided to drive. It was an eighteen hour trip, including a few stops.
Being completely honest, I was TOTALLY dreading the drive, but you guys, the drive from southern Missouri all the way to Florida was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Seriously, the greenery and the mountains, Nashville and Atlanta lit up at night. Oh it was soooo pretty. That being said, it was pretty, but I'll stick with flights. I'm a super-fan of convenience and driving just does not fall into that category. I am just not a fan of sitting in a car for long periods of time. Another detail that was different than all of the other trips I've taken: we stayed off property. Don't get me wrong, we stayed at the Regal Palms Resort, and it was fantastic! (10/10 would recommend) They have a lazy river and a salt water pool. They have a volleyball court, giant connect four, giant jenga blocks, hair braiding, a tiki bar, a waterslide, and music playing! There is also a grocery store and a restaurant on site and plenty more within walking distance just around the corner. The rentals were four-bedroom and were only $95 a night! It was a great deal and an awesome time. We had decided to stay off property because we were also going to the beach and Universal Orlando. However, the convenience level was a definite zero. We were only about twelve miles from Disney property, but each commute took us about thirty minutes to an hour. Once we arrived to the park we were attending we had to pay the $25 parking fee. So, to be clear, it took us wayyyy longer to get there and then we had to pay to park. I understand the parking fees, but it was just super inconvenient after having stayed on property several times and being able to take advantage of the on property transportation. Really, there is no comparison. All in all, we had a fantastic trip. It was my 25th birthday and I had a bunch of my favorite people in my all-time favorite place!

Recently, I've had this obsession with helping others find the magic of Disney and go on a vacation of their own. Okay, so I've had it literally forever... But I've recently been looking into how to become a Disney Travel Agent! Well, (drum roll please....) I DID IT!!! After training, I will be working with Destination Orlando, etc. to help families, and anyone for that matter, create their own happily ever after! Ladies and gentlemen, let me be clear when I say, A DISNEY VACATION IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA!! Can I get an AMEN?!? It's great news and I couldn't wait to share with you!
One more pretty darn awesome thing that will also be taking place, is that I am partnering with another class in San Antonio, Texas to also do the Virtual Field Trip to Disney as I mentioned before! I am also so very excited about this endeavor, as is the teacher I will be working with. We are part of the same Disney group on Facebook, Disney World Junkies. If you're a Disney lover, they're one you should be following!! Click their name above to follow them! Today I am connecting with fellow Disney fanatics and like always, they pulled through for me! I was in dire need of some maps of Epcot for a virtual field trip in my classroom coming up. Every year I take my kiddos on a virtual field trip to somewhere in Disney World! The looks on their faces are "fantasmic"! (If I might say so!) It is something they look forward to, but this year I am surprising them with a "Where in the world is Mrs. Zimdars" type situation! They must find me! I will actually be in Disney World at Epcot! I am so excited about this opportunity for my students! I am excited for the grade change, as I will be teaching 4th grade next year. Such exciting things happening! get ready for a wild ride!!!
This year for the fourth, my family and I ventured to Wyoming to see some family. 14 hour car ride....stuck in the back. But we’ve made the most of it! As much as I’ve traveled, I have really never seen mountains. Now, I have seen them, drove in them, and hiked them! If it didn’t snow so much, I would live here!!! I am not a snow person, or cold weather person for that matter! All the more reason to move to Florida! I have had so much fun on this trip, and it isn’t even over! Today we celebrate our great nation and we’re riding some razors through the hills! I feel so blessed to be able to see this beautiful county. Ive also been planning my next trip to Disney while on this vacation. Planning a vacation while on vacation, oh the life, right? My husband and I have the opportunity to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival! We are staying at the All-Star Sports Resort. I made him stay at the Art of Animation: Little Mermaid Room on our honeymoon, so I figured he probably would appreciate a little manliness on this trip! Life is to short to live in a comfortable box. Get out. Explore. Live with intention! Hello again! Today I want to talk about something that I use everyday while at the job I love: Disney (like no one saw that coming...). I teach second grade, the perfect age for classic Disney story read-alouds. I read to my kiddos at the end of each day. It's important for them to hear someone reading while developing their own reading skills. The first book we read was the first Mary Poppins book and now we are on Alice in Wonderland. They. Are. Fantastic. The stories allow for crazy voices and you better believe I take full advantage of that! A side of Disney that a lot of people do not know about is that they publish. Not just the "step into reading" books where they tell a story they've already told in a lower vocabulary fashion. NO. They actually hire and publish authors and have their own books. Books that aren't a tv show or movie.....yet (we know how that goes). Anyways, my class is literally overflowing with Disney-ness! Share your ideas, or questions to add to my class or for your benefit, below!
Okay so anyone who knows me knows that I am the bus driver of the Dorkmobile. It happens. I just roll with it. One of my biggest quirks is that I love Disney, to a fault. I've been to the parks several times. I own just about every pair of Lula Roe Disney leggings. I have several old tin Disney lunch boxes (with the thermos, I might add). My classroom is 100% decorated in Disney everything. Some say I have a problem. I say, I have just found my happy place.
I met my husband in high school and even then, it was evident that I had a passion for Disney, but I did try to hide it. I didn't want to be THE weird kid, just slightly above what that kid ranked. Shallow, I know. But it wasn't enough to scare my high school sweetheart away! He loves Harry Potter so we're even. Ish. Disney is still better haha. So you could say we go together like Dole Whip and Mickey Ice Cream Bars. We love to travel and decided for our honeymoon that we'd go to Walt Disney World, and make a smaller side stop which I admittedly enjoyed, at Universal to see Harry Potter World. Before this trip I also went as a freshman in college. I most recently went to Disneyland this past summer! Each time, and every waking minute in between, I spent planning and pinning and everything else research related to make sure that I wasn't missing anything! So as you can imagine, just as any other fanatic would, I've accumulated a huge collection of secrets to saving money, finding hidden unknown fun things, where to sleep, where to eat, and so much more! Disney quickly became a happy place for me because of the atmosphere. I love the feeling of knowing that I'm going back. And the feeling when you pull up on the shuttle. And most of all the feeling you get when you first walk into the parks. It's just like, Wow. I'm actually here. Even with all the people around you, you can just sit in the moment and know how much joy is coming from that place! Now, it isn't all rainbows and sunshine. Its inevitable that you WILL see or hear that crying toddler, or parent, on more than one occasion. But the happy so totally outweighs everything else going on. I like that feeling. I like being able to hold onto that feeling. I like sitting at my desk in my classroom after a long day teaching and remembering that super happy and carefree feeling. |
